Mollie is a Dutch payment service provider founded in 2004 by Adriaan Mol. A payment service provider (PSP) that helps businesses accept online payments. It offers an easy and secure way to integrate payment methods such as iDEAL, bank transfer, credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Bancontact into webshops and other online platforms.
WHAT DOES PSP MEAN
A Payment Service Provider (PSP) provides online merchants with payment options such as iDEAL, bank transfer, credit card payment and mobile phone payment. PSD, the abbreviation for Payment Service Provider, is one of the most important European laws for online payments. Thanks to PSD, online payments have become much easier and safer for businesses. This law - a European directive - drawn up by the European Commission has been in force since 2019 and is supervised in the Netherlands by the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
THE BENEFITS
Integrated payments from bank to webshop can often also be agreed directly with the banks. In practice, however, this does not happen very often because banks charge higher fees than payment providers. In addition, they do not offer other payment methods, which means that an online shop has to make several integrations. Another advantage of a PSP is that it has the security certificates required for certain payment methods such as credit cards. By outsourcing credit card authorization to a PSP, the store does not have to have it itself.
FLOW OF CASH
The payments made online are received by the PSP, in this case Mollie. These are then automatically or indirectly transferred to the customer's account at NORAH Plastics. There may also be costs associated with this. This is only permitted for so-called collecting PSPs with a license from the Nederlandsche Bank.
